Special Tooling Group Manager

Location: Folsom, California or Reno, Nevada, United States. U.S. citizenship and eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD security clearance are required. Applicants must also qualify as a U.S. Person under ITAR and EAR requirements. Approximately 10% travel is required.

Salary: $180,000–$230,000 base annually, excluding benefits and bonus or incentive compensation.

What you will do

• Lead and develop a multidisciplinary team of tooling engineers, designers, and technicians.
• Establish and enforce policies and standard operating procedures for special tooling design, fabrication, inspection, maintenance, and disposition.
• Manage government and company property control systems, audits, reconciliations, and compliance with FAR 52.245.
• Own tooling configuration management, documentation, revision control, traceability, and engineering change orders.
• Direct inspection planning, first-article inspections, calibration, recertification, and tooling readiness reviews.
• Manage tooling budgets, schedules, suppliers, capital planning, continuous improvement, safety, FOD prevention, and quality performance.

Requirements

• 15 or more years of progressive tooling or manufacturing engineering experience in aerospace or defense, including support for solid rocket motor or propulsion programs.
• Experience building and leading tooling or manufacturing engineering teams in structured program environments.
• Expert application and interpretation of GD&T according to ASME Y14.5.
• Experience with configuration management, tooling records, ECO processing, traceability, property control systems, and audit readiness.
• Knowledge of precision machining, composite tooling, assembly fixtures, welding, CMM, optical measurement, functional gauging, and aerospace inspection processes.
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, manufacturing, industrial, or related engineering discipline; U.S. citizenship and DoD clearance eligibility required.

Nice to have

• Experience with Missile Defense Agency programs, MAP or PMAP requirements, DCMA audits, and contractor government property systems.
• Experience with SRM motor case, nozzle, or DACS tooling.
• Lean or Six Sigma Green Belt certification or higher.
• Experience with SAP, Oracle, or equivalent ERP/MRP systems.
• Master’s degree in mechanical, manufacturing, or related engineering.
