Systems Engineer – Project Engineer VI (Aerospace)

Location: Folsom, California, or remote from Colorado. Requires approximately 10% travel and work in secure or classified environments.

Salary: $169,490–$279,160 USD annually in California; $161,016–$265,202 USD annually in Nevada.

What you will do

• Serve as chief project engineer or senior technical lead for large, multi-phase defense and aerospace programs.
• Define system architecture, integration, verification, technical baselines, and configuration-management strategies.
• Oversee engineering execution across Integrated Product Teams, subcontractors, and suppliers while managing technical, cost, and schedule compliance.
• Lead major design and integration reviews, including SRR, PDR, CDR, and TRR, and monitor technical performance metrics.
• Interface with executive management and DoD customers, including technical interchange meetings and milestone reviews.
• Drive risk management, proposal support, engineering-process improvement, mentoring, and knowledge-management initiatives.

Requirements

• Must have or be able to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret Clearance and U.S. security clearance.
• At least 15 years of progressively responsible experience in project engineering, systems engineering, or program-level technical leadership, with degree-based alternatives available.
• Experience leading large-scale DoD or MDA programs through concept development, integration, verification, qualification, and delivery.
• Experience as a Control Account Manager and technical lead under EVMS-compliant contracts.
• Advanced knowledge of DoD acquisition frameworks, DoDI 5000-series processes, and MIL-STD systems engineering practices.
• Strong leadership, architecture-level judgment, technical trade-analysis, communication, and project-planning skills.

Nice to have

• Background in propulsion systems, flight-vehicle integration, or complex electro-mechanical systems.
• Experience overseeing major subcontractors and suppliers, leading customer engagements, supporting proposals, and improving engineering processes.
