TL;DR
Senior Thermal Systems Engineer (Lunar Space Systems): Developing end-to-end mission concepts and thermal architectures for lunar landers, rovers, surface power systems, and spacecraft with an accent on thermal design, mission requirements, and system-level trade studies. Focus on designing next-generation thermal management systems, resolving cross-disciplinary technical risks, and translating customer requirements into feasible mission architectures.

Location: Pittsburgh, PA; Remote. Applicants must be U.S. Persons under ITAR/EAR regulations and eligible to obtain required export authorizations.

Salary: $160,000–$185,000 base salary annually, excluding benefits and bonus/incentive.

What you will do

  • Develop and review concepts and designs for lunar landers, rovers, surface power systems, and spacecraft.
  • Define mission concepts and architectures for NASA, government, and commercial customers.
  • Perform thermal design, analysis, and trade studies to size thermal architectures against mission requirements.
  • Develop next-generation thermal management systems and resolve system-level impacts of thermal requirements.
  • Create technical content for proposals, customer presentations, and internal development programs.
  • Collaborate with engineering disciplines, partners, customers, and vendors to address technical risks and program needs.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline, plus 5–10 years of relevant engineering experience; an advanced degree may substitute for equivalent experience.
  • Experience in space system development, systems engineering, structural or thermal design and analysis, mechanical and fluid systems, or manufacturing.
  • Experience authoring and decomposing mission and system-level requirements.
  • Strong understanding of launch, space, and lunar environments.
  • Strong organizational, multitasking, problem-solving, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Must be a U.S. Person and eligible to obtain required export authorizations.

Nice to have

  • Experience with end-to-end mission solutions and mission architecture development.
  • Experience writing and reviewing software scripts for automation and analysis.
  • Knowledge of NASA and industry engineering standards.
  • Experience with agile environments, Confluence, and Jira.
  • Eligibility to obtain and hold a U.S. security clearance.
