Senior Tooling Engineer (Fusion Energy)

Location: Onsite at the Los Lunas, New Mexico facility, United States

Salary: $147,700–$221,600 USD per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Design, analyze, and procure lifting, transportation, and handling fixtures for large custom hardware.
• Collaborate with engineers, production employees, and scientists to meet strict technical and operational requirements.
• Apply industry standards and regulations to create new designs and improve existing equipment.
• Review fixture designs for structural integrity under dynamic and static loading.
• Create and review CAD models, FEA, and mechanical fabrication drawings.
• Document equipment testing requirements and findings, and mentor design engineers on lift and transport fixture best practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering with a structural focus; a master’s degree is preferred.
• 7+ years of experience designing and analyzing lift, transportation, and handling fixtures for large hardware.
• Deep knowledge of rigging equipment, lifting techniques, load path analysis, and safety standards including ASME B30 and OSHA 1926.
• Expertise with structural and FEA analysis of custom fixtures, as well as cranes, forklifts, and below-the-hook lifting fixtures.
• Experience with road-transport vehicles, custom transport containers or fixtures, and oversized-load permitting.
• Proficiency in CAD, with strong communication, documentation, organizational, independent-working, and collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Professional Engineer license.
• Experience designing lift fixtures for nuclear facilities, including remotely operated fixtures.
• Experience integrating hydraulic or motorized alignment systems into fixture designs.
• Experience designing end-of-arm manipulator systems for robotics.
• Background in nuclear, energy, aerospace, or construction industries.
