Design Systems Designer (AI)

Location: Palo Alto, California, United States; hybrid

Salary: $190,000–$240,000 per year plus equity

What you will do

• Own the architecture, strategy, and evolution of the design system across web and mobile surfaces.
• Design and ship production-ready components with defined states, variants, responsive behavior, and accessibility.
• Partner with frontend engineering on design-to-code quality, parity, and maintainability.
• Create documentation, usage guidance, anti-patterns, decision frameworks, and contribution standards.
• Build governance models and audit the system to improve component coverage and consistency.
• Evaluate and integrate AI-powered design tooling, including Figma AI, MCP integrations, Storybook MCP, and generative workflows.

Requirements

• 7+ years of product design experience, including at least 3 years owning or significantly contributing to a design system at a product company.
• Portfolio demonstrating systems-level thinking, component craft, and impact at scale.
• Expert Figma skills, including component architecture, variables, tokens, and auto-layout.
• Experience with design tokens, Storybook, GitHub, and close collaboration with engineers.
• Strong understanding of HTML, CSS, React or equivalent, accessibility standards, and inclusive design.
• Strong written communication and experience leading cross-functional initiatives with senior stakeholders.

• Experience integrating AI tools into design and development workflows.

• Thought leadership through writing, speaking, or open-source contributions.
• Experience in enterprise SaaS, fintech, or complex data-dense products.
