Design Systems, Product Designer (AI)

Location: Hybrid in Denver, San Francisco, or New York; office attendance is expected approximately 2–3 days per week. The San Francisco office expectation includes the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas. Symmetry roles are based in Scottsdale.

Salary: $147,000–$215,000 per year in Denver and $178,000–$253,000 per year in San Francisco and New York.

What you will do

• Design and maintain Workbench components and patterns, including complex variables, variants, and tokenized styles.
• Own semantic and functional token architecture during the brand refresh and transition toward theming.
• Pair with engineers on design decisions, implementation reviews, technical plans, and code contributions.
• Develop AI tooling, structured documentation, Storybook examples, and content that makes the design system legible to LLMs.
• Support designers and engineers through office hours, Slack, async reviews, and usage guidance.
• Shape component architecture, naming conventions, design decisions, and migration strategy.

Requirements

• 4+ years on a product design systems team across design, implementation, documentation, and adoption.
• 7+ years of product design experience, with expertise in token architecture and component API design.
• Meaningful experience using AI tools such as Claude, Copilot, or similar, including directing and evaluating AI output.
• Technical ability to pair with engineering, understand constraints, contribute to implementation decisions, and work with code repositories.
• Strong understanding of WCAG AA accessibility guidelines and their impact on components and tokens.
• Expertise with Figma, complex component construction, variables, tokens, prototyping, and basic GitHub processes.

Nice to have

• Experience with LLM-readable documentation, MCP servers, or AI-assisted design tooling.
