Staff Product Designer (AI)

Location: Hybrid in Austin, TX; Arlington, VA; New York, NY; or San Francisco, CA

Base salary: $198,000–$248,000 for Austin or Arlington; $220,000–$276,000 for New York City or San Francisco.

What you will do

• Own the strategy, architecture, and evolution of the design system across web and mobile products.
• Define AI-powered workflows for component generation, code translation, prototyping, and automated quality checks.
• Build and maintain a documented component library with usage guidelines and contribution standards.
• Partner with Engineering, Product, and Brand to balance technical feasibility, consistency, accessibility, and brand integrity.
• Establish governance and best practices for responsible AI use in design, while mentoring designers across the organization.
• Advise Design and Product leadership on AI capabilities, design-system strategy, and long-term technical direction.

Requirements

• 7+ years of product design experience, including at least 3 years focused on design systems at scale.
• Deep expertise in design systems for web and mobile, including token architectures, component APIs, and documentation frameworks.
• Experience integrating AI tools into design and development workflows.
• Expert proficiency with Figma, including Variables, Auto Layout, and component architecture.
• Strong understanding of HTML, CSS, React or similar frontend frameworks, and design-to-engineering collaboration.
• Experience leading cross-functional initiatives, influencing senior leaders, and demonstrating systems-level impact through a portfolio.

Nice to have

• Experience building AI-native design-system tooling or contributing to open-source design systems.
• Knowledge of WCAG and inclusive design practices.
• Experience with design-to-code automation tools.
• Background in coaching, HR technology, or enterprise SaaS.
• Thought leadership through speaking, writing, or open-source contributions in design systems.
