Principal Software Engineer (Java/Spring Boot)

Location: Annapolis Junction, Maryland, United States. The role is primarily onsite; telework may be possible after onboarding, with an onsite or hybrid onboarding period.

Salary: $151,745–$303,490 per year.

What you will do

• Design, implement, and maintain Java/Spring Boot microservices and REST APIs for authentication, authorization, and middleware services.
• Model, query, index, and optimize NoSQL data stores for low-latency production workloads.
• Troubleshoot application, database, and integration issues, lead incident response, and deliver durable fixes.
• Contribute to system architecture decisions, including hardware/software trade-offs and COTS/GOTS reuse.
• Develop automated tests, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment artifacts in collaboration with DevOps and infrastructure teams.
• Review code, create design documentation, and mentor less-experienced engineers.

Requirements

• Must currently reside in the United States.
• Active TS/SCI with Poly clearance required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field plus 12+ years of software engineering experience; an additional four years of experience may substitute for the degree.
• Hands-on experience developing and maintaining Java/Spring Boot applications, RESTful APIs, microservices, dependency injection, configuration management, and production troubleshooting.
• Hands-on experience with NoSQL databases, including data modeling, querying, indexing, performance optimization, and Spring Boot integration.

Nice to have

• MongoDB experience, including document modeling, queries, indexes, aggregation, and Spring Data MongoDB.
• LDAP/Active Directory integration experience with authentication, authorization, directory lookups, and Spring Security/LDAP.
• Experience with distributed systems, application security, enterprise architecture, automated testing, CI/CD, Git, Maven, and production deployments.
