HR Operations Manager (AI)

Location: San Francisco, United States; on-site with a 5-day in-office schedule

Salary: $150,000–$200,000 per year, plus equity and bonus

What you will do

• Own end-to-end payroll operations, including accuracy, funding coordination, reporting, and compliance.
• Administer employee benefits, open enrollment, vendor management, and employee support.
• Lead HR compliance across California employment law, wage-and-hour rules, leave administration, I-9 processes, recordkeeping, audits, and visa sponsorship program management.
• Handle employee relations matters, including conflict resolution, performance concerns, and workplace investigations.
• Build and maintain HR policies, the employee handbook, and change-management programs.
• Own HRIS, payroll, and benefits-platform data integrity while communicating the role of People Operations across the company.

Requirements

• 5–8+ years in HR generalist, HRBP, or HR operations roles with hands-on ownership of payroll, benefits, and compliance.
• Deep knowledge of California employment law and wage-and-hour rules, with the ability to learn additional state requirements.
• Sound judgment, empathy, discretion, and experience handling sensitive employee relations matters.
• Experience building or substantially improving HR infrastructure at a small or fast-growing company.
• Clear, calm, written-first communication and experience leading policy, system, or program change.
• Comfort working on-site in San Francisco five days per week.

Nice to have

• Prior experience working at a startup.
• Experience supporting both full-time employees and contractor or expert populations.
• SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification.
