Principal Electrical Engineer (UAV)

Location: Torrance, California, United States

Salary: $255,000–$357,000 USD base salary annually, plus potential equity.

What you will do

• Own the production electronics development lifecycle from system architecture and detailed design through layout oversight and high-volume production release.
• Establish rigorous design practices, including worst-case circuit analysis, component derating, DFM, DFT, and DFR.
• Act as the final technical sign-off authority for major design decisions, design reviews, verification and validation plans, and product releases.
• Define system requirements, validate technical feasibility, and shape the hardware technology roadmap.
• Provide technical leadership on complex multidisciplinary problems and communicate architectural decisions to engineering and executive audiences.
• Mentor electrical engineers and raise hardware design standards across the organization.

Requirements

• 10+ years of distinguished experience in electrical hardware design, including deep expertise in high-speed digital design and embedded systems.
• Experience taking products from concept through high-volume production with hands-on ownership across the hardware lifecycle.
• Expert proficiency in schematic capture, preferably using Altium, and experience producing and reviewing complex multidomain designs.
• Mastery of PCB layout for high-speed digital, power, and mixed-signal systems, including signal integrity, power integrity, and EMC requirements.
• Experience with PCIe, MIPI CSI-2, USB 3.x, LVDS, SerDes, DFM, DFT, EMC/EMI, and worst-case circuit analysis.
• Expertise in at least one domain such as power electronics, RF/wireless design, high-speed digital design, or embedded systems architecture, together with strong technical communication skills.

Nice to have

• RF and wireless systems expertise, including antenna design, RF front-end architecture, link budgets, and FCC/CE compliance.
• Experience with LoRa, FHSS, UAVs, avionics, robotics, FPGA integration, or demanding operational environments.
• Experience with Ansys SIwave, HyperLynx, MATLAB/Simulink, technology roadmaps, or silicon vendor evaluation.
• Master of Science or PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
