Workers' Compensation Claims Manager

Location: San Diego, CA; fully remote

Salary: $100,000–$120,000 per year

What you will do

• Supervise, coach, and mentor workers' compensation adjusters handling medical-only, indemnity, and litigated claims.
• Conduct file reviews, audits, and performance evaluations while monitoring productivity, claim quality, diary management, and customer service metrics.
• Review and approve reserves, settlement recommendations, claim strategies, and authority requests.
• Provide technical guidance on compensability, litigation management, return-to-work coordination, subrogation, and excess reporting.
• Manage escalated and complex claims and collaborate with defense counsel, medical providers, vocational professionals, nurse case managers, and clients.
• Support onboarding and training, identify process improvements, and participate in client meetings and stewardship reviews.

Requirements

• 5–7 years of workers' compensation claims handling experience.
• 2–3 years of supervisory, team lead, or claims leadership experience.
• Strong knowledge of multi-jurisdictional workers' compensation statutes and procedures.
• Experience overseeing medical-only, indemnity, and litigated claims, including reserving, subrogation, excess reporting, and EDI reporting.
• Experience with file audits, performance reviews, and coaching adjusters, plus strong analytical, organizational, communication, and decision-making skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; an active adjuster license and experience with Guidewire, RiskMaster, or similar claims platforms are preferred.
