Sr Consultant, Claims - Management Liability & Specialty Lines (Surety)

Location: Remote within the continental United States, including any of the lower 48 U.S. states

Salary: $122,000–$214,000 national annual range; expected starting range: $122,000–$182,000

What you will do

• Investigate and evaluate coverage, liability, and damages for the most serious and complex claims.
• Develop claim strategies, settlement recommendations, and file reserves within approved authority.
• Handle litigated claims across management liability and specialty lines, including surety liability, errors and omissions, directors and officers, and employment practices liability.
• Coordinate defense counsel and provide consultation on severe claims, coverage issues, policy wording, and litigation risks.
• Collaborate with customers, agents, legal counsel, underwriters, claims leadership, and other business partners.
• Develop claims-handling standards, training plans, business plans, and strategies for new specialty-line products.

Requirements

• Preferred: ten years of prior insurance experience.
• Experience investigating and resolving severe, complex litigated claims and handling sophisticated coverage issues.
• Surety claims or strong construction litigation experience, including performance and/or payment bond claims.
• Extensive knowledge of insurance contracts, coverage issues, contingent or extra-contractual liability, and litigation management.
• Ability to analyze jurisdictional law, policy exclusions and exceptions, coordinate defense counsel, and make independent decisions.
• College degree preferred; Juris Doctorate desired. Required federal and/or state licenses or registrations must be obtained within the designated period.

Nice to have

• Juris Doctorate.
• Completion of IIA, AEI, or CPCU insurance courses.
• Experience serving as a subject matter authority in specialty-line claims.
