Patient Access Specialist

Location: Onsite at HSHS - St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Illinois, United States

Salary: $17.00–$18.15 per hour, based on experience

What you will do

• Perform admitting and patient access duties for hospital patients, including assigning accurate medical record numbers and processing physician orders.
• Collect and verify demographic, insurance, and financial information through pre-registration and inbound or outbound calls.
• Complete medical necessity and compliance checks, including screening Medicare services through ABN software.
• Explain consent, Medicare, Tricare, observation, and other required forms; obtain signatures and distribute patient education materials.
• Review insurance eligibility and benefit data to support point-of-service collections, billing, and clean claims.
• Conduct account audits, correct records, and provide statistical reporting to Patient Access leadership while maintaining customer service standards.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 1 year of customer service experience.
• CRCR certification required within 9 months of hire; certification is company-paid.
• Ability to work onsite at HSHS - St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.
• Availability for full-time evening, overnight, morning, or varied shifts, including rotating weekends.
