Project Engineer I/II Engineering Services (Railway Construction): Managing construction projects and engineering plans for railroad track, facilities, bridges, tunnels, and culverts with an accent on safety, project controls, and infrastructure design. Location: Kansas City, KS, United States. This is a full-time onsite role with approximately 60–90% travel, rotating shifts, emergency on-call responsibilities, and possible relocation assistance based on business needs.

Salary: $96,300–$108,600 per year.

What you will do

  • Manage construction projects through planning, permitting, administration, construction management, inspection, and performance control.
  • Implement construction safety processes and evaluate project change orders.
  • Support cash-flow forecasting and prepare detailed estimates for capital expenditure programs.
  • Develop engineering plans, estimates, and schedules for mainline, track, yard, and railway facility projects, including stabilization work.
  • Provide engineering support for railroad structures such as bridges, tunnels, and culverts.
  • Coordinate contractors, public agencies, and Signal, Track, Telecommunications, and Structures teams.

Requirements

  • Experience working with contractors on track, facilities, and new construction projects.
  • Planning and engineering design capability, with a thorough understanding of track and general civil engineering, including geotechnical engineering.
  • Knowledge of track maintenance and train operations, or the ability to quickly learn BNSF engineering standards and policies.
  • Strong communication, organization, teamwork, and multi-project coordination skills.
  • Ability to work in indoor and outdoor safety-sensitive conditions, including extreme weather, uneven surfaces, loud noise, fumes, and heavy or moving machinery.
  • Engineering or Construction Management degree is highly desired; understanding of permitting processes is desirable.
