Optical Test Engineer, Tech Lead (Silicon Photonics)

Salary: $185,000–$240,000 per year, depending on experience, level, and business need. The role may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, incentives, and benefits.

What you will do

• Define and implement optical test architectures and flows across wafer probe testing, package-level characterization, and optical module validation.
• Execute characterization and qualification testing for CPO components and assemblies, including high-speed optical measurements.
• Design and build test stations using fiber alignment systems, optical switches, tunable lasers, optical spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, and BER testers.
• Develop automated test software, scripts, and frameworks using Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB, or similar platforms.
• Implement high-throughput test solutions for wafer-scale and production-level testing, and analyze data to identify failure modes and yield-limiting factors.
• Collaborate with design, process engineering, suppliers, and foundries; provide DFT recommendations and maintain test documentation, SOPs, and knowledge base articles.

Requirements

• M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, Photonics, or a related discipline.
• 5–7+ years of experience in optical testing, photonic device characterization, or optical transceiver development.
• Strong knowledge of silicon photonics devices, including modulators, photodetectors, multiplexers, grating couplers, and edge couplers.
• Hands-on experience with optical test equipment such as OSA, OMA, tunable lasers, polarization controllers, power meters, high-speed oscilloscopes, BERTs, and pattern generators.
• Experience with high-speed optical link testing at 100G/lane and above, including PAM4 and NRZ, plus programming in Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or C/C++.
• Knowledge of IEEE 802.3, OIF-CEI, CMIS, statistical analysis methods, and data visualization tools.

Nice to have

• Experience with co-packaged optics or on-board optics architectures.
• Experience with wafer-level optical probing, automated photonics test platforms, and related hardware and software.
• Experience transitioning test processes from laboratory or prototype environments to high-volume manufacturing.
