Staff / Sr. Staff Photonics Test Engineer (Silicon Photonics)

Location: Mountain View, California, United States. Flexible hybrid workplace model.

Salary: $187,000–$260,000 USD annually, plus equity grants and performance-based rewards.

What you will do

• Architect wafer-, package-, and system-level characterization and test strategies for silicon photonics products.
• Define test concepts, test platforms, design-for-test rules, and detailed test plans in collaboration with architecture and design teams.
• Develop and operate photonics test setups using tunable lasers, power meters, polarization synthesizers, OBR/OVA, and high-speed test equipment.
• Develop Python-based software for test execution, data analysis, and parameter extraction.
• Collaborate with silicon, platform validation, reliability, and OSAT teams to support product introduction and high-volume manufacturing.
• Work with vendors to specify and procure test equipment and resolve gaps between test and validation activities.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Photonics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of experience in silicon photonics test development and industrial support for new product introduction and volume production.
• Deep understanding of silicon photonics components and circuits, including hands-on characterization and testing.
• 3+ years of direct experience with high-speed photonic device testing, system link bring-up, and equipment such as AWG, DCA, DSO, PNA, and LCA.
• Experience automating test systems with Python, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to comply with federally mandated U.S. export control requirements.

Nice to have

• PhD in Photonics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 2+ years of photonic component or circuit design experience.
