Technical Marketing Engineer (Photonics)

Salary: $133,000–$185,000 base salary per year, plus potential bonus and equity.

What you will do

• Define deployment use cases and architectures for optical interconnects, switches, and routers across multiple generations and DWDM configurations.
• Create deployment-rule tools, optical configuration tools, and web-based configuration tools for Arista products.
• Develop application notes, white papers, test procedures, troubleshooting guides, onboarding materials, and demonstration content.
• Build Python-based automation for test flows, laboratory instrument control, and large-scale test-result logging.
• Set up and execute optical and electrical tests using BERTs, power meters, spectrum analyzers, OTDRs, and oscilloscopes.
• Collaborate with sales, systems engineering, hardware, firmware, operations, product lifecycle management, and marketing teams, including conference demonstration support.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, physics, or a related technical field.
• At least 5 years of experience in optical networking and DWDM design and deployment.
• Strong practical knowledge of Ethernet, DWDM, coherent optical technologies, and multi-span amplified systems.
• Hands-on experience with optical test equipment, traffic generators, and network protocol analysis tools such as Wireshark, Ixia, or Spirent.
• Experience with system testing, scripting such as Python or TCL, new product introduction, and testing coherent and IMDD transponders or transceivers.
• Strong writing, presentation, communication, troubleshooting, and data-analysis skills.

Nice to have

• PhD in photonics and/or an MBA.
• Experience with DWDM signal propagation analysis, simulation, optical amplifiers, optical mux/demux systems, and performance parameters such as Pre-FEC BER, OSNR, chromatic dispersion, and polarization mode dispersion.
