TL;DR
Staff High-Speed I/O Test Engineer (Silicon Photonics): Validating and architecting package- and system-level test strategies for high-speed I/O interfaces, with an accent on electrical characterization, link bring-up, and stress testing. Focus on automating laboratory measurements with Python, troubleshooting signal integrity issues, and transitioning photonics technologies into high-volume manufacturing.
Location: Mountain View, California, United States; flexible hybrid workplace model
Salary: $187,000–$220,000 USD per year, plus equity and other rewards.
Company
develops data center photonics infrastructure for extreme-scale AI and high-performance computing workloads, including its 3D-stacked Passage photonics engine.
What you will do
- Execute high-speed serial I/O characterization and validation across multiple product platforms.
- Develop package- and system-level test strategies, test platforms, and design-for-test rules for manufacturing.
- Set up and operate oscilloscopes, BERTs, AWGs, TDRs, VNAs/PNAs, and related high-speed laboratory equipment.
- Build Python-based automation for laboratory measurements, test execution, data analysis, and parameter extraction.
- Define stress-testing methodologies to identify serial I/O operating limits after system integration.
- Debug compliance hardware, fixtures, software, and devices under test while coordinating with architecture, signal integrity, silicon design, and equipment vendors.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- 6+ years of industry experience developing transceiver, SerDes, or high-speed link tests for products.
- Hands-on experience with high-speed laboratory equipment, including oscilloscopes, BERTs, PPGs, VNAs, and spectrum analyzers.
- Strong knowledge of high-speed interfaces and analog building blocks such as PLL, CDR, CTLE, DFE, FFE, and FEC.
- Experience automating test systems and processing data with Python.
- Strong analytical, debugging, and technical communication skills for resolving hardware and signal integrity issues.
Nice to have
- Experience characterizing and testing silicon photonics components and circuits, including tunable lasers, power meters, polarization synthesizers, and OBR/OVA.
- Knowledge of system-level SerDes design, channel analysis, insertion loss, return loss, crosstalk, and link training algorithms.
- Knowledge of IEEE 802.3, OIF, PCIe, or USB4 specifications.
- Ph.D. with 2+ years of relevant industry experience.
Culture & Benefits
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage.
- Retirement savings matching, life insurance, and short- and long-term disability coverage.
- Vacation, sick leave, public holidays, and paid family leave.
- Training and development support, commuter benefits, and equity grants for full-time employees.
