TL;DR
Manufacturing Engineering Lead (Battery Manufacturing) (Electric Aviation): Scaling battery production for electric aircraft through new product introduction, process optimization, and manufacturing strategy with an accent on Lean Manufacturing, DFM/DFA, quality, capacity, and cost reduction. Focus on building scalable production systems, leading process capability and validation work, integrating automation, and developing a manufacturing engineering team.

Location: South Burlington, Vermont, United States; onsite role with regular activity on the manufacturing floor

Salary: $135,000–$165,000 USD per year, plus equity for full-time team members

What you will do

  • Lead new product introduction into production and optimize existing battery manufacturing processes.
  • Develop scalable manufacturing strategies for increasing production rates, capacity, quality, and cost efficiency.
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, process optimization, and continuous improvement methods.
  • Partner with program management, design, supply chain, quality, automation, R&D, tooling, and manufacturing teams on DFM/DFA and process validation.
  • Own capacity planning, process capability studies, improvement plans, and compliance with FAA Part 21 production requirements.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop a team of manufacturing engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, or high-rate production.
  • Strong experience with NPI, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, DFX, DFM, DFA, and design-to-cost.
  • Experience scaling production, reducing costs, and leading engineering teams.
  • Knowledge of SPC, MSA, RCA, GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, metrology, automation, digital manufacturing, and advanced production technologies.
  • Ability to write technical reports and lead cross-functional work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Nice to have

  • Battery manufacturing, eVTOL, electric aircraft, aerospace, or electric-aircraft startup experience.
  • Experience with Industry 4.0, advanced manufacturing, FAA conformity, AS9100, and aerospace regulatory compliance.
  • Familiarity with Catia, Solidworks, Minitab, and ERP/MES systems.
