Senior Software Development Engineer (Backend)

Location: Mountain View, California, United States; onsite five days per week

Salary: $190,978–$214,052 USD annual base salary, excluding bonus, equity, and benefits

What you will do

• Implement and maintain Merchant, Resource, Discount, and UseCase API endpoints for the Commerce Platform.
• Build reliable, well-tested backend services for internal applications and external developers.
• Develop scalable, extensible, secure, API-first platform capabilities.
• Partner with Developer Experience to create onboarding flows and documentation for merchants and developers.
• Collaborate with Authentication Platform, Organization Platform, Marketplace Apps, and Identity Graph teams.
• Drive best practices in distributed systems, observability, reliability engineering, DevOps, code review, and engineering standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 6+ years of backend software engineering experience, including API development for customer-facing products.
• 5+ years of experience with Java, Ruby, Go, Python, or another modern programming language.
• Experience building RESTful APIs and distributed systems.
• Strong understanding of API design, versioning, and contract-first development.
• Experience or familiarity with cloud platforms, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, identity standards, monitoring, logging, and observability.

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS or GCP and Terraform.
• Knowledge of OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, or SAML.
• Experience with Prometheus, Datadog, or similar observability tools.
• Experience building high-reliability, fault-tolerant systems or multi-tenant SaaS architectures.
