Senior Software Engineer II (Confluent)

Location: Remote, United States; city listed as Columbus, Ohio. Some travel may be required based on business demand.

Salary: $131,000–$245,000 per year

What you will do

• Design, develop, and operate the cloud-native Stream Governance platform for Kafka and real-time data.
• Build large-scale, multi-tenant backend services in a microservices-based environment.
• Drive projects from requirements and architecture through implementation, rollout, and production operation.
• Make technical decisions balancing reliability, scalability, performance, security, and operability.
• Own mission-critical services with a 99.99% SLA across more than 100 AWS, GCP, and Azure regions.
• Provide technical leadership, mentor engineers, conduct design and code reviews, and coordinate roadmap delivery across teams.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience designing, building, scaling, and operating backend systems in production.
• Strong proficiency in at least one of Java, Go, C/C++, or Python, plus solid data structures, algorithms, and system design fundamentals.
• Hands-on experience with distributed systems, event-driven architectures, high-throughput services, or large-scale data pipelines.
• Experience operating production services in AWS, GCP, or Azure, including Docker or Kubernetes workloads.
• Expertise in cloud-native technologies, networking, security, and on-call operations.
• Must be able to work without current or future visa sponsorship. Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with mission-critical, multi-region services with strict availability and latency requirements.
• Familiarity with Apache Kafka, Flink, or similar data streaming technologies.
• Cross-organizational technical initiatives, open-source contributions, technical writing, or public speaking.
