Associate Engineer

Location: Hybrid — Dallas, TX area; Flower Mound, TX

Compensation: Competitive hourly rate; benefits commonly offered to part-time employees.

Salas O’Brien is an employee-owned engineering and professional services firm providing integrated engineering, consulting, and forensic engineering services across multiple industries.

What you will do

• Assist engineers with field inspections and testing involving weather damage, foundations, equipment, structural elements, fire and explosion scenes, and vehicle accidents.
• Measure, diagram, photograph, and survey buildings, accident scenes, damaged structures, and collapsed components.
• Collect soil, debris, engineering, and equipment samples for analysis and laboratory examination.
• Set up, calibrate, operate, and maintain electrical, mechanical, and other test equipment while monitoring data acquisition.
• Interview witnesses, property owners, and representatives; contact manufacturers and suppliers; and coordinate sample and equipment shipments.
• Support research projects by developing testing methods, procuring materials, documenting experiments, and maintaining test equipment records.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field from a four-year college or university.
• Ability to apply probability, statistics, algebra, calculus, differential equations, geometry, trigonometry, and engineering economics.
• Ability to solve practical problems and interpret written, oral, diagrammed, and scheduled instructions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for preparing reports and interacting with clients, property owners, and other contacts.
• Ability to work in physically challenging environments, climb ladders, stairs, and roofs, carry equipment, and tolerate travel and overnight stays.
• Personal vehicle use is required for some assignments.
