Engineering Manager (Application Platform)

What you will do

• Lead an Application Platform pod of approximately 8–15 engineers and QA professionals, owning its roadmap, standards, and on-call posture.
• Own the API gateway and edge layer, including routing, plugins, rate limiting, mTLS, HMAC, rollout strategy, and tested rollback procedures.
• Own authentication and session security, including strong customer authentication, re-authentication, new-device gating, session revocation, and credential management.
• Define API standards and governance covering versioning, identifiers, enforcement, and review processes.
• Improve operational maturity through incident command, deployment hygiene, delivery metrics, audit logging, alerting, and production debugging.
• Hire and develop engineers, grow the Tech Lead, manage performance, and maintain a sustainable on-call model.

Requirements

• At least 2 years managing a full team of 5 or more engineers, with a Tech Lead or senior individual contributor reporting to you.
• Strong backend or infrastructure engineering experience with the ability to design APIs, model schemas, and write idiomatic, runnable, tested code.
• Experience owning a shared platform, API gateway, or authentication system used by internal teams.
• Deep understanding of API design, authentication, distributed-systems failure modes, blast radius, concurrency, and idempotency.
• Experience leading high-risk production migrations or cutovers with an exercised rollback plan, as well as personally owning on-call and incident command.
• Experience working with security or compliance teams, hiring and performance management, and operating independently on ambiguous problems.

Nice to have

• Experience in fintech, payments, or another regulated environment with audit and access-control obligations.
• Production API gateway experience, including custom plugins, mTLS, OAuth2, and control-plane topology decisions.
• Experience with strong customer authentication, PSD2-style requirements, or step-up authentication.
• API governance at scale, observability, audit logging, DORA metrics, and deployment or branch-discipline improvements.
