What you will do

• Lead and grow a team of 6–10 backend engineers through 1:1s, performance management, and hiring.
• Participate in architectural discussions and design reviews to ensure high technical standards.
• Own team-level delivery, planning, and prioritization while balancing product velocity with engineering quality.
• Partner with product, data, and business stakeholders to shape the roadmap and translate technical constraints.
• Foster a culture of ownership, reliability, and blameless incident management.

Requirements

• Proven experience managing engineering teams (6+) in a fast-paced environment.
• Deep background in distributed systems using JVM languages (Java/Kotlin).
• Strong understanding of high-throughput stacks (Postgres/Kafka) and observability (SLOs/SLIs).
• Proficiency in agile methodologies and delivering complex, cross-team projects.
• Familiarity with fintech requirements such as auditability and PCI-DSS compliance.
• Must be based in or able to relocate to Berlin, Germany.
