Mechanical Engineer IV - Design (Aerospace)

Location: Reno, Nevada or Folsom, California, United States. Travel of approximately 10% may be required. Applicants must be U.S. Persons and able to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.

Salary: $135,000–$185,000 USD annually in California; $119,000–$165,000 USD annually in Nevada.

What you will do

• Design and optimize actuators, igniters, pressure vessels, solid rocket motors, hot gas valves, and rocket thrusters.
• Create complex 2D and 3D CAD models, technical drawings, and detailed GD&T and tolerance analyses.
• Perform structural, dynamic, thermal, simulation, mass, reliability, and system performance analyses.
• Evaluate ceramics, insulators, metals, refractory alloys, propellant systems, and ballistic performance.
• Support additive manufacturing, machining, molding, casting, welding, composite layups, assembly, and quality control, including NDT.
• Develop test plans, integrate components, operate measurement equipment, collect and analyze test data, and communicate technical findings.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a relevant engineering discipline; equivalent experience may be considered.
• Seven to ten years of mechanical engineering experience.
• Must qualify as a U.S. Person under applicable ITAR and EAR requirements.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.
• Advanced capabilities in mechanical design, CAD modeling, GD&T, structural and thermal analysis, manufacturing, testing, and systems engineering.
• Strong technical communication, presentation, documentation, leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

Nice to have

• Rocket motor design and testing experience.
• Master of Science in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a relevant engineering discipline.
