TL;DR
Staff Systems Integration Engineer (Quantum Communication): Building and validating integrated quantum networking systems by translating physics research into system requirements, specifications, and production-ready hardware-software platforms with an accent on verification, validation, and hardware-in-the-loop testing. Focus on designing automated test and deployment processes, conducting data-driven trade studies, monitoring telemetry, and developing control GUIs for advanced quantum hardware.

Location: Onsite at the Bothell, Washington office, United States. Up to 20% domestic and/or international travel. U.S. Person status or applicable export-control authorization may be required for access to controlled technology and government-contract work.

Salary: $151,756–$198,688 base per year, plus bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

  • Translate quantum research findings into performance requirements and system specifications with physicists.
  • Align system requirements with scientific understanding and project objectives, then develop verification and validation plans.
  • Oversee subsystem integration and system-level testing in hardware-in-the-loop environments.
  • Manage performance parameters, document empirical results, and provide engineering support.
  • Lead data-driven trade studies for system design and material selection.
  • Design automated testing and deployment processes and develop GUIs for hardware control and troubleshooting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, or a related field.
  • At least 10 years of relevant development experience integrating complex hardware and software systems through production readiness.
  • Experience taking systems through complete development cycles and increasing technology readiness levels.
  • Experience with hardware-focused software development, test scripting, telemetry monitoring, and instrumentation for remote operation.
  • Familiarity with embedded software programming and FPGA development.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in engineering or a related field.
  • Experience designing and assembling high-precision technological systems and converting scientific research into engineering projects.
  • Advanced proficiency in Python, Java, MATLAB, or similar scientific and engineering languages.
  • Experience with Grafana or similar telemetry platforms, instrumentation control, configuration management, and model-based engineering.
  • INCOSE Systems Engineering Professional certification or equivalent.
