TL;DR
Electrical Engineer (Defense) (Embedded Electronics/PCB Design): Designing and testing embedded electronic systems, PCBs, avionics, guidance systems, communication systems, and power distribution for autonomous defense platforms with an accent on high-speed digital, analog, power, and interface circuitry. Focus on rapid hardware prototyping, validating performance with laboratory equipment, meeting defense and export-control standards, and integrating electrical systems with multidisciplinary vehicle designs.

Location: Huntington Beach, California, United States; on-site

Salary: $120,000–$155,000 per year, plus equity

What you will do

  • Design embedded electronics and circuit boards with MCUs, high- and low-speed communication buses, digital and analog interfaces, power distribution, EMI, and ESD protection.
  • Develop PCB schematics, layouts, and stackups for flight avionics, guidance, communication, and power systems using Altium Designer or comparable tools.
  • Rapidly build, test, and evaluate hardware prototypes with laboratory tools and test equipment.
  • Create and maintain design documentation, CAD drawings, and product specifications.
  • Ensure PCB and system designs meet quality, reliability, safety, defense, and export-control requirements.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, systems, test, quality, regulatory, and other engineering teams on integrated vehicle electrical systems and harnessing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • At least one year of full-time experience or participation in student competition or design teams such as FSAE, drone, or rocket clubs.
  • Proficiency with electrical design software such as Altium Designer or Cadence.
  • Experience designing with high-performance MCUs, high-speed digital and analog circuits, power systems, and interface ICs.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware prototyping and testing, plus strong schematic, layout, and stackup design skills.
  • Security clearance or the ability to obtain one, U.S. work authorization, and eligibility to access technology controlled under EAR and ITAR without export-license sponsorship.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with MIL-STD and other defense industry standards.
  • Defense industry experience, particularly with weapons systems and unmanned aerial vehicles.
