Backend Engineer (AI)

What you will do

• Design and build high-concurrency backend services for agent orchestration, tool execution, and real-time streaming.
• Develop failure handling, retry logic, and state management for long-running agentic workflows.
• Architect foundational APIs, memory retrieval systems, and secure sandboxed execution environments.
• Optimize low-latency streaming and high-throughput data processing.
• Own features from low-level design and prototyping through deployment, monitoring, and performance tuning.
• Implement system instrumentation and automated evaluation frameworks for system health and model-quality regressions.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building mission-critical backend systems.
• Expertise in concurrency, networking protocols, distributed systems, horizontal scaling, and production operations.
• Experience integrating LLMs into backend pipelines and handling the failure modes of non-deterministic systems.
• Strong experience with at least one systems-level language, such as Go, Rust, C++, or Java.
• Experience with cloud-native architectures, AWS or GCP, container orchestration, and secure isolated execution sandboxes.
• Ability to communicate architectural tradeoffs and collaborate with model researchers.

Nice to have

• Experience with gRPC and WebSockets for high-performance streaming.
• Experience with vector databases, distributed caching, or custom memory management systems.
• Knowledge of Kubernetes, microservices security, or serverless execution patterns.
• Experience building developer-facing APIs or SDKs.
