Metrology Engineer

Location: Huntington Beach, California, United States; on-site. Up to 50% travel. Employment may require authorization to receive technology controlled under U.S. export control laws without sponsorship for an export license, and authorization to work in the United States is required.

Salary: $105,000–$140,000 per year for Engineer level; $140,000–$180,000 per year for Senior Engineer level, plus equity.

What you will do

• Perform dimensional inspections for development, production, supplier, receiving, in-process, final, first article, and nonconformance hardware using CMMs, portable measurement systems, 3D scanners, and related equipment.
• Create inspection programs, measurement plans, alignments, reports, and fixtures from drawings, models, specifications, and GD&T requirements.
• Use PolyWorks, Verisurf, or comparable software to compare measured data with nominal geometry and evaluate features.
• Select measurement tools and methods based on tolerances, geometry, accessibility, materials, surface condition, uncertainty, and intended use.
• Develop a metrology manual and introduce measurement and quality tools, including FMEA, early in design and supplier processes.
• Conduct measurement system analysis and train technical users on inspection methods, equipment, and data interpretation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• Hands-on experience in dimensional inspection, metrology, quality operations, manufacturing inspection, or a related hardware environment.
• Experience operating CMMs, portable coordinate measurement systems, 3D scanners, or comparable equipment.
• Experience creating inspection programs, measurement plans, alignments, and reports from engineering drawings, models, and GD&T.
• Experience with PolyWorks, Verisurf, or comparable dimensional-inspection software, plus MSA, Gage R&R, repeatability, reproducibility, uncertainty, or method validation.
• Authorization to work in the United States and, where applicable, to receive technology controlled under U.S. export control laws without sponsorship for an export license.

Nice to have

• Experience with aerospace, defense, propulsion, automotive, medical, or other high-reliability hardware.
• Experience with PC-DMIS, CALYPSO, CMM Manager, PolyWorks Inspector, Verisurf, FARO, or comparable platforms.
• Experience developing measurement procedures, metrology standards, equipment-selection matrices, or technician training materials.
• Knowledge of ISO 17025, AS9100, NIST traceability, calibration requirements, or other regulated measurement practices.
• Experience with prototype builds, supplier inspections, first article inspection, process capability, or corrective-action investigations.
