TL;DR
Battery Design Engineers (EV) (electric mobility battery systems): Architecting and building highly integrated electromechanical hardware for micromobility battery systems from concept and prototyping through production launch with an accent on structural, thermal, electrical, manufacturing, and packaging integration. Focus on first-principles analysis, production-quality CAD and drawings, hands-on validation, supplier collaboration, and solving manufacturing issues across mechanical, thermal, and electrical domains.
Location: Palo Alto, United States; on-site
Company
is an electric mobility company developing vertically integrated, small electric vehicles for more affordable, efficient local transportation.
What you will do
- Own battery subassemblies or complete systems from concept and prototyping through validation and production launch.
- Design and integrate battery pack hardware, including enclosures, busbars, cooling systems, PCBAs, connectors, high-voltage interfaces, and structural components.
- Develop top-level assemblies, tolerance strategies, 2D drawings, and engineering releases for complex 3D assemblies.
- Evaluate concepts through first-principles analysis, hands-on prototyping, testing, and iteration.
- Design for scalable manufacturing and collaborate with suppliers and contract manufacturers on tooling, processes, assembly, and production ramp.
- Root-cause manufacturing and field issues across mechanical, thermal, and electrical domains.
Requirements
- Bachelorβs degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Ability to analyze thermal, structural, and electrical problems from first principles.
- Experience designing and releasing complex electromechanical products from concept through production.
- Fluency with advanced 3D modeling software; CATIA V6/3DX is preferred.
- Ability to produce production-quality 2D drawings using rigorous GD&T.
- Knowledge of welding, stamping, molding, fasteners, adhesives, TIMs, mechanical joining, DFM, and DFA, plus hands-on prototyping and hardware validation experience.
Nice to have
- Experience designing battery packs for electric vehicles, powersports, micromobility, or other electrified platforms.
- Experience with lithium-ion cell characterization and selection, battery safety, and abuse testing standards.
- Experience with Ansys or Altair for structural and thermal FEA.
