Senior Backend Engineer (AI)

Location: On-site in Kendall Square, Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States

Salary: $160,000–$220,000 per year, plus bonus and equity

What you will do

• Own backend components across the current product and future product development.
• Design, evaluate, and implement technical architecture with a focus on speed, quality, safety, and long-term maintainability.
• Write, review, ship, and operate production code throughout its lifecycle.
• Build and maintain backend services, APIs, databases, CI/CD workflows, and microservices.
• Collaborate in person with the CTO, founding team, sales executives, designers, and engineers.
• Use generative AI tools to improve the quality and effectiveness of software and other deliverables.

Requirements

• Senior-level backend engineering experience with a generalist skill set and backend specialization.
• Expertise in Python, Terraform, and GCP.
• Experience with backend frameworks or technologies such as Node, NuxtJS, Express, or Python.
• Experience with cloud platforms, programming languages, RPC or API technologies, databases, CI/CD, and source control.
• Experience designing or working with microservices architecture.
• Ability to work independently, make architecture decisions, communicate rationale, and collaborate effectively in an in-person environment.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with AI platforms such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Hugging Face, Vertex AI, Bedrock, or SageMaker.
• Experience building enterprise-scale applications with service-level availability above 99%.
• Extensive experience with Python, Terraform, and GCP.
