Software Engineer (AI)

Location: In-person at the Brooklyn Navy Yard lab in Brooklyn, New York, United States

Salary: $210,000–$265,000 base per year, plus equity and benefits

What you will do

• Build backend services for experiment definitions, sample path planning, and durable task execution.
• Design database schemas, migrations, ETL pipelines, object storage, and data-serving systems for models and LLMs.
• Develop internal platforms, SDKs, shared services, developer tooling, and service templates.
• Improve observability and production reliability through structured logging, metrics, tracing, and debugging.
• Build hybrid cloud and on-prem infrastructure using containerization, orchestration, and infrastructure-as-code.
• Develop agent tooling and scientific workflow orchestration, including API integrations, experiment scheduling, retries, idempotency, and long-running jobs.

Requirements

• 5–6+ years of production software engineering experience with the ability to design, build, and ship end-to-end systems.
• Fluency in Go and/or Python.
• Strong experience with distributed systems, concurrent and asynchronous programming, failure handling, retries, idempotency, and safe rollback.
• Solid networking fundamentals and experience with containerization, cloud deployment, Kubernetes, AWS, and Linux systems.
• High ownership and a strong focus on software quality, correctness, and reliability.
• Ability to work in person at the Brooklyn Navy Yard lab.

Nice to have

• Experience with agentic systems, LLM workflows, Ray, MongoDB, gRPC, CI/CD, or DevSecOps.
• Experience with self-hosted storage, embedded protocols, device virtualization, or microcontroller firmware.
• Strong observability experience with tools such as Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or distributed tracing.
• Frontend experience with TypeScript, Svelte, or React.
• Background in robotics, automation, or manufacturing infrastructure.
