Avionics Intern - Neutron Avionics Systems (Aerospace): Designing and testing electrical subsystems, harnesses, schematics, and automated test equipment for the Neutron launch vehicle with an accent on reliability, electrical interfaces, instrumentation, and hands-on troubleshooting. Focus on developing prototype harnesses, analyzing test data, supporting hardware commissioning, and maintaining engineering design and component data.

What you will do

  • Assist with electrical design libraries and data management in Teamcenter.
  • Develop harness routes, fit checks, wiring schematics, connector selections, and electrical BOM releases.
  • Build prototype harnesses for research and development applications.
  • Support launch-vehicle troubleshooting, data analysis, electrical testing, and test coverage activities.
  • Help build and commission automated test equipment, including test setups and diagnostic electronics.
  • Create procedures, maintenance and calibration documentation, train users, and collaborate across engineering disciplines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent qualification, currently in progress or recently completed.
  • At least 1 year of experience in electronics design and at least 1 year of experience testing and troubleshooting new electronic systems.
  • Knowledge of electronics principles, electrical systems, power electronics, communication systems such as RS-422, SPI, Ethernet, and CAN bus, signal integrity, and grounding.
  • Understanding of instrumentation, interfaces, sensors, power supplies, oscilloscopes, serial devices, accelerometers, thermocouples, RTDs, and 4–20 mA sensors.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • For the New Zealand office, background and nationality checks apply because access to ITAR-regulated equipment and data is required; eligibility may depend on citizenship of Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Switzerland, an EU country, or a NATO country.

Nice to have

  • Experience designing analog, digital, or mixed-signal PCBs from concept through production.
  • Experience with C/C++, Python, scripting, or automation.
  • Previous internship or project experience in avionics or electrical systems.
  • Experience creating written and verbal communication materials for external audiences.
