TL;DR
Avionics Intern - Neutron Avionics Hardware (Aerospace): Developing electronic assemblies, avionics components, ground support equipment, and production automation tools for the Neutron reusable launch vehicle with an accent on PCB design, electrical testing, and automated test systems. Focus on designing mixed-signal circuits, commissioning and debugging test equipment, and supporting qualification, production release, and troubleshooting activities.

What you will do

  • Support the design, maintenance, and management of electrical design libraries in Altium Designer.
  • Design, verify, characterize, and prototype analog, digital, and mixed-signal electronic circuits and PCBs.
  • Prepare electrical bills of materials and designs for production release.
  • Support testing campaigns for avionics components and the build and commissioning of automated test equipment.
  • Develop data automation, testing, and reporting tools, and debug electrical test equipment.
  • Collaborate with engineers across departments and provide support and training for automated test equipment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent, currently being pursued or recently completed.
  • 0–1 years of experience in electronics design, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience designing and implementing analog, digital, or mixed-signal PCB circuits from concept through production.
  • Familiarity with power electronics, communication systems such as RS-422, SPI, Ethernet, and CAN bus, signal integrity, and grounding.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • For work in New Zealand offices, eligibility to access equipment and data regulated by ITAR is required; nationality checks and background checks will be conducted.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of instrumentation, interfaces, sensors, power supplies, oscilloscopes, serial devices, accelerometers, thermocouples, RTDs, and 4–20 mA sensors.
  • Understanding of battery systems and programming, scripting, and automation using C/C++ or Python.
  • Previous internship or project experience in avionics hardware or electronics design.
