Location: Onsite or hybrid from College Park, MD; Bothell, WA; Toronto, Canada; or Gothenburg, Sweden, or fully remote in the US. Travel up to 10%, domestic or international. Access to export-controlled technology and certain government-contract work requires verifying U.S. Person status, obtaining a required license, or confirming a license exception.
Salary: $145,920–$191,047 base salary annually, plus bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do
- Develop fault-tolerant quantum solutions with scientific and commercial applications across multiple industries.
- Find, define, and solve real-world customer and partner problems using trapped-ion quantum computers.
- Compare FTQC, NISQ, and classical HPC algorithms using metrics for performance, scaling, trade-offs, and crossover points.
- Create computational resource models, tools, libraries, simulators, compilers, and end-to-end workflows.
- Discover foundational intellectual property and publish results in peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
- Collaborate on multi-year initiatives and represent at technical conferences.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of professional experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Documented expertise in fault-tolerant quantum computing algorithms with a path to large-scale customer value.
- Experience developing tools, metrics, resource estimates, or benchmarking approaches for quantum algorithms.
- Strong ability to optimize algorithm accuracy and time-to-solution through theoretical and engineering methods.
- Demonstrated domain expertise through talks, repositories, licenses, publications, and/or patents.
- U.S. Person status, an applicable license, or a license exception may be required for export-controlled and government-contract work.
Nice to have
- Ph.D. in computer science, mathematics, engineering, physics, or a related field.
- Experience supporting government contracts.
- Proficiency in C++, Python, Qiskit, or a similar quantum SDK.
- Experience working directly with customers and delivering production or cloud-based hybrid solutions.
- Knowledge of CI/CD.
