Ion Transport Physicist (Quantum Computing)

Location: Broomfield, Colorado or Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, United States. Hybrid work is available, with employees expected to work at their assigned location and the possibility of working remotely up to two days per week with approval.

Salary: $148,000–$185,000 annually.

What you will do

• Develop ion transport methods through numerical simulation and modeling.
• Create and maintain software tools for ion transport waveform design.
• Provide technical input on ion trap top-metal geometry and fabrication.
• Collaborate with experimental teams to characterize and validate ion transport concepts in the laboratory.
• Perform trade studies, technical analyses, and reviews of scientific results.
• Present research at conferences and in peer-reviewed publications while developing project plans, schedules, and budgets.

Requirements

• PhD completed before starting the role.
• At least 5 years of relevant experience, including experience gained during the PhD.
• Experience in ion transport, quantum computing, quantum information, atomic physics, experimental control systems, electronics design, ion trap design, or ion trap fabrication.
• Experience with numerical simulation of physical systems using Python or related tools.
• Must qualify as a U.S. Person: U.S. citizen, permanent resident or green card holder, or a worker granted asylum or refugee status.
• Due to U.S. Government national security requirements, candidates must not be nationals of China or Russia unless also a U.S. citizen.

Nice to have

• Eight or more years of scientific research, development, engineering, or related experience.
• Experience with electrostatic simulation, surface ion traps, neutral atom transport, trapping ions or neutral atoms, or ion trap fabrication.
• Experience with electronic signal generation, filtering, signal processing, and software project organization.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with a substantial publication record.
