Staff Software Engineer (Cybersecurity)

Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States

Base salary: $223,000–$239,000 USD per year, plus equity and potential incentive compensation.

What you will do

• Own product and platform features from problem definition through production across multiple teams.
• Design and build backend services, APIs, data processing workflows, integrations, and customer-facing capabilities.
• Set technical direction and architectural standards for engineering teams.
• Translate customer needs, security signals, and ambiguous product ideas into architectures, plans, and shipped software.
• Improve system performance, reliability, scalability, and observability while resolving complex production issues.
• Mentor engineers, raise engineering standards, and establish responsible practices for AI-assisted development.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with increasing technical scope and impact.
• Strong proficiency in one or more of Python, Go, TypeScript, or SQL.
• Experience designing backend services, APIs, distributed systems, data workflows, or production product features at scale.
• Deep knowledge of relational databases such as Postgres, cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP, and containerization and orchestration with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with event-driven or streaming systems such as Kafka or Redis.
• Ability to lead complex cross-team initiatives, make system design and operational tradeoffs, and communicate with technical and senior stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience with Grafana, Prometheus, CI/CD pipelines, GitLab CI/CD, or large-scale data pipeline architecture.
• Background or interest in security, SaaS platforms, identity, threat detection, or data protection.
• Experience mentoring senior engineers and working across geographically distributed teams.
• Experience evaluating AI-generated code, integrating AI/ML APIs, or working with LLMs, embeddings, vector databases, inference, and evaluation.
