Sr. Backend Engineer (Cybersecurity)

TL;DR

Senior Backend Engineer (Go/Python): Building the next generation of the UI foundation (Kestrel) for a cybersecurity platform with an accent on unifying data across security domains and streamlining access to information. Focus on designing and scaling high-load distributed services and solving complex scalability challenges.

Location: Hybrid (NYC, USA or Toronto, Canada). Must visit office twice a week.

Salary: $140,000 – $215,000 per year

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain large-scale backend services for the Kestrel platform.
• Take ownership of deliverables and triage complex system issues to ensure service stability.
• Mentor web and backend engineers on the usage of feature services.
• Continuously improve architecture, observability, and performance of products.
• Collaborate with product managers and UI teams to document and implement new requirements.

Requirements

• Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience in data structures and distributed systems.
• Proven experience scaling backend systems through sharding, partitioning, and horizontal scaling.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems and scalability challenges.
• Thorough knowledge of engineering best practices, including TDD and peer code reviews.
• Must be based in or able to commute to NYC or Toronto offices for a hybrid schedule.

Nice to have

• Exposure to Go, AWS, Kubernetes, Cassandra, Kafka, or OpenSearch.
