Controller (Fintech)

Location: Hybrid at the Plano, Texas headquarters, with in-office presence required Tuesday through Thursday each week. Candidates must already have the right to work in the United States without employment-based visa sponsorship.

What you will do

• Design and build the internal control environment, including risk assessments, process narratives, control matrices, procedures, and evidence standards.
• Lead the external audit from scoping and PBC management through technical positions and issue resolution.
• Own monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and deliver GAAP financial statements and analysis to leadership, the board, and lenders.
• Lead, coach, hire, and develop the accounting team across general ledger, revenue accounting, and accounts payable.
• Own the accounting systems roadmap across Workday Financials, FloQast, and adjacent finance tools.
• Manage technical accounting, tax compliance, debt and banking partner reporting, and collaboration with FP&A, Payment Operations, Product, and Engineering.

Requirements

• 10+ years of accounting experience, including public accounting and a senior in-house role at a high-growth company.
• Experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Director of Accounting with full ownership of the close and general ledger.
• Experience building or materially rebuilding internal controls and owning the external audit relationship through a clean opinion.
• Experience leading accounting teams, including hiring, performance management, and succession planning.
• Experience writing and defending technical accounting memos, especially for revenue recognition and complex transactions.
• Active CPA required; candidates must have current U.S. work authorization without requiring employment-based visa sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Big Four or national firm audit background.
• Experience in fintech, payments, payroll, lending, or complex money movement environments.
• Experience with first-time audits, SOX readiness, IPO preparation, debt facilities, warehouse lines, or lender reporting.
• Experience using Workday Financials and FloQast.
• Experience scaling an accounting function from a small team.
