Assistant Controller (Fintech)

Location: New York City; hybrid

Salary: $200,000–$250,000 per year

What you will do

• Own technical accounting for loan accounting, CECL, revenue recognition, and IPO readiness.
• Develop and maintain the Technical Accounting Policy Manual.
• Ensure reconciliations are complete, accurate, and traceable from the ledger to source data systems such as Snowflake.
• Design and implement internal controls for a pre-IPO fintech environment.
• Partner with data and engineering teams on scalable GAAP-compliant ledger and transaction-tagging frameworks.
• Manage and develop accounting team members while overseeing high-risk accounting areas and close operations.

Requirements

• Full-cycle technical accounting experience in GAAP-intensive environments.
• Ability to independently research and apply FASB/ASC Codification guidance.
• Experience designing and implementing internal controls frameworks.
• Strong reconciliation skills, including tracing transactions from the ledger to source data.
• Experience managing or mentoring accounting team members.
• Background in banking, insurance, fintech, or accounting firms serving regulated financial services, plus a CPA license.

Nice to have

• Big Four audit or advisory experience.
• Experience supporting an IPO or audit-readiness process.
• Familiarity with data infrastructure, ledger design, or transaction-tagging frameworks.
• Experience with loan accounting, leasing, or revenue recognition.
• Experience in high-growth or pre-IPO environments.
