Senior Buyer — Metal & Raw Material (Automotive)

Location: Hybrid in Troy, Michigan, with regular visits to plant or supplier sites; applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis. Up to 20% travel may be required.

Annual base pay: $108,000–$136,000.

What you will do

• Develop the strategic supply base and lead sourcing, RFIs, RFQs, negotiations, and commercial agreements for automotive BIW parts, tooling, services, and raw materials.
• Manage purchase orders, pricing updates, long-term supply agreements, blanket orders, consignment programs, NDAs, and supplier contracts.
• Monitor metal commodity markets, indices, tariffs, trade policy, regulations, and geopolitical events to inform purchasing strategies and budgets.
• Build Tier-n supplier maps, identify single-source dependencies, assess supply-chain risks, and address material availability issues before production impact.
• Establish raw-material buying and scrap-pooling programs, including pricing strategies, governance, scrap resale, recovery credits, and yield optimization.
• Lead supplier qualification and development, performance reviews, cost reduction, disruption resolution, spend analysis, reporting, and cost-estimating support.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in procurement, supply chain management, or engineering, including at least 3 years focused on metals or industrial raw materials.
• Experience sourcing BIW for production and prototypes, including stampings, assemblies, roll forming, aluminum extrusions, and BIW tooling.
• Expertise in ferrous and non-ferrous metal commodity markets, price indices, and sourcing strategies.
• Experience negotiating multi-million-dollar supply contracts and delivering cost-reduction targets, preferably in automotive or manufacturing.
• Knowledge of ERP/MRP systems such as SAP, Plex, Oracle, or NetSuite, plus advanced Microsoft Excel skills for analysis and cost modeling.
• Permanent US work authorization is required; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
• Intermediate or higher proficiency with AI tools for procurement workflows and analytics.
• CPSM, CPM, or equivalent professional certification.
