TL;DR
Electronics Hardware Design Engineer (Power Electronics): Designing and developing embedded control boards, power electronics interfaces, and data acquisition hardware for the Eos Stellarator with an accent on mixed-signal circuits, PCB layout, signal integrity, and high-voltage isolation. Focus on building prototypes, debugging hardware in the lab, integrating firmware with deterministic real-time control, and validating electronics under demanding operating conditions.

Location: Kearny, New Jersey, United States; on-site

Salary: $110,000–$150,000 per year

Company

hirify.global is developing a simplified stellarator architecture for commercial fusion energy using computer-controlled arrays of planar coils.

What you will do

  • Design custom embedded control boards based on ARM, DSP, and/or FPGA/SoC platforms.
  • Develop ADC/DAC interfaces, digital I/O, sensor front-ends, gate drivers, opto-isolated switching logic, and power-stage interfaces.
  • Create schematics and PCB layouts for high-current and high-voltage environments, including signal integrity, isolation, thermal design, and power integrity considerations.
  • Select components and build, bring up, debug, and validate prototype hardware using laboratory instruments.
  • Collaborate with embedded firmware, power electronics, software, and systems engineers on hardware/software compatibility and mechanical, thermal, and electrical integration.
  • Implement EMI/EMC mitigation, isolation strategies, and reliable control electronics for the Eos Stellarator.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience designing embedded hardware for power systems, control systems, or instrumentation.
  • Expertise in analog and mixed-signal circuit design, sensor signal conditioning, and high-speed interfaces including SPI, I2C, UART, RS-485, CAN, and Aurora.
  • Proficiency with schematic capture and PCB layout tools such as Altium Designer or OrCAD.
  • Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, board-level debugging, rework, and signal probing.
  • Ability to work on-site in an industrial facility and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs, travel, or work nights, weekends, or on-call shifts.

Nice to have

  • Experience with control electronics for power supplies, motor drives, or magnet systems.
  • Knowledge of gate driver design, isolation techniques, fail-safe circuitry, and EMI/EMC compliance.
  • Experience with RTOS- or FPGA-based control systems and real-time embedded integration.
  • Familiarity with LTSpice, PLECS, spectrum analyzers, and signal generators.

Culture & Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision benefits.
  • Employee equity stock options.
  • 20 days of paid time off.
  • Work involves industrial hazards including heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics.
  • Equal opportunity workplace committed to diversity and inclusion.
