Data Engineer, Event Data

Location: Toronto, Canada (Remote)

Salary: CAD 130,000–165,000 base pay annually, with potential additional bonus and benefits.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain event streaming pipelines ingesting data from client systems, internal services, and third-party sources.
• Develop and operate analytical databases and data models optimized for high-volume event queries and low-latency access.
• Build production Elixir and Python services for event processing, transformation, and routing.
• Integrate legacy pipelines with modern streaming infrastructure and design low-risk migration paths.
• Implement monitoring, alerting, observability, data contracts, schemas, and quality standards for event data systems.
• Collaborate with data platform, product engineering, and analytics teams on reliable event data products and system design practices.

Requirements

• Strong proficiency in Elixir and/or Python for application connectors, data services, and pipeline components.
• Advanced SQL skills for data modeling, query optimization, and analytical workloads.
• Production experience with columnar or OLAP databases and stream processing frameworks or message brokers such as Apache Flink, Kafka, Pulsar, or Kinesis.
• Experience integrating and migrating legacy and modern systems, including production monitoring, alerting, SLA dashboards, and runbooks.
• Experience designing and operating data systems on AWS.
• Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation, plus strong collaboration and technical communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with Flink, Databricks, or Kafka, Pulsar, and Kinesis.
• GCP experience.
• Experience with retail event data such as clickstream, purchase, or product interaction data.
