Director - Electrical Engineering Systems (Fusion Energy)

hirify.global develops stellarator-based fusion energy systems using computer-controlled arrays of planar coils to create a zero-emission energy source.

What you will do

• Lead and grow multidisciplinary engineering groups covering electrical distribution, power electronics, and embedded electronics.
• Own electrical system delivery from requirements and architecture through detailed design, prototyping, vendor engagement, testing, installation support, and commissioning readiness.
• Define plant-level electrical architecture, including utility interfaces, substations, distribution, grounding, protection, power quality, and reliability.
• Oversee high-power converters, HTS magnet power supplies, embedded control and instrumentation hardware, and electromagnetic compatibility strategy.
• Lead modeling, simulation, integration, verification, validation, technical reviews, and configuration-controlled delivery artifacts.
• Coordinate with systems, controls software, mechanical engineering, safety, program management, utilities, external engineering partners, technicians, and test teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 10+ years of relevant experience across power systems, distribution, power electronics, embedded electronics, controls hardware, or industrial electrical infrastructure.
• 5+ years of engineering management experience leading multi-team organizations, including hiring and performance leadership.
• Experience delivering complex electrical systems from architecture through prototype validation and integration, preferably for fusion, accelerator, advanced nuclear, large industrial, or high-power research facilities.
• Knowledge of utility interconnection, protection coordination, power quality mitigation, battery energy storage, static compensators, verification and validation, configuration control, and electromagnetic compatibility.
• Ability to work around industrial hazards including high voltage, high current, strong magnets, cryogenics, heat, cold, noise, fumes, and pressure systems; occasional travel, nights, weekends, or on-call work may be required.

Nice to have

• Experience with ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD, SKM, or CYME.
• Experience with PLECS, LTspice, Simulink, Altium, or OrCAD.
• Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power analyzers, and electronic loads.
