TL;DR
Senior Mission Concept Engineer (Aerospace): Defining end-to-end lunar mission concepts, architectures, and system-level designs for landers, rovers, surface power systems, and spacecraft with an accent on mission analysis, technology road mapping, and customer-driven product development. Focus on performing trade studies, decomposing requirements, managing system budgets and margins, and translating abstract mission needs into actionable architectures for NASA, government, and commercial customers.

Location: Pittsburgh, PA, or remote within the United States. Applicants must be a U.S. Person under ITAR/EAR regulations and must be eligible to obtain required export authorizations.

Salary: $250,000–$300,000 base salary annually, excluding benefits and bonus/incentive.

What you will do

  • Define and review end-to-end mission concepts for NASA, government, and commercial customers.
  • Develop concepts and designs for lunar landers, rovers, surface power systems, and spacecraft.
  • Create technical content for mission opportunities, proposals, customer presentations, and internal development programs.
  • Develop system-level technical visions, architectures, requirements, budgets, margins, and bills of materials.
  • Perform trade studies, first-order system sizing, and system-level analysis to support technical and program decisions.
  • Lead cross-functional engineering discussions and translate customer requirements into product goals and actionable design tasks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, systems engineering, or a related discipline, plus 10 years of relevant engineering experience; an advanced degree may substitute for equivalent experience.
  • Experience in space system development, systems engineering, structures and thermal design, avionics, power systems, propulsion, orbital mechanics, electrical or mechanical systems, software and controls, modeling and simulation, or manufacturing.
  • Experience developing technical proposal content and external customer presentations.
  • Experience authoring and decomposing mission- and system-level requirements.
  • Strong understanding of launch, space, and lunar environments.
  • Must qualify as a U.S. Person under ITAR/EAR requirements and be eligible to obtain required export authorizations.

Nice to have

  • Experience with end-to-end mission solutions and mission architecture development.
  • Experience writing and reviewing software scripts for automation and analysis.
  • Knowledge of NASA and industry engineering standards.
  • Experience working in an agile environment with Confluence and Jira.
  • Eligibility to obtain and hold a U.S. security clearance.
