What you will do

  • Own the Ward250 Fire Protection Program and integrate it into the facility safety basis.
  • Prepare, maintain, and defend the Fire Hazards Analysis for a DOE Hazard Category 2 high-temperature gas-cooled reactor.
  • Maintain compliance with NFPA, DOE, ANSI/ANS, and Utah building-code requirements, including technical justifications, equivalencies, exemptions, and AHJ interactions.
  • Implement combustible-material controls, hot-work permits, impairment tracking, inspection and testing schedules, and the Baseline Needs Assessment.
  • Coordinate pre-incident planning and emergency response procedures with Emery County Fire and EMS.
  • Verify fire-effects-on-safe-shutdown analysis and advise on fire protection requirements during decommissioning.

Requirements

  • Degree in fire protection engineering from an ABET-accredited program or a PE license in fire protection engineering.
  • Experience preparing or technically reviewing Fire Hazards Analyses for DOE Hazard Category 2 or 3 nuclear facilities.
  • Working knowledge of NE O 420.1 and DOE-STD-1066-2023 fire protection implementation requirements.
  • Experience with NFPA 801, NFPA 2001, and documented fire protection programs at DOE nuclear facilities.
  • Familiarity with DOE safety basis processes, including DSA development, TSR derivation, and SBAA review.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DOE site access and existing authorization to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.

Nice to have

  • Experience with gas-cooled reactors, research reactors, or other reactor facilities.
  • Experience defending hybrid construction and suppression-exclusion strategies to DOE reviewers.
  • Familiarity with DOE-STD-3009-2014, DOE-STD-1237-2021, ANSI/ANS 15.17, and Baseline Needs Assessment development.
  • Experience coordinating with local AHJs and emergency responders in rural or remote settings.
