Software Engineer (Python)

Location: Hybrid, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada

Salary: CAD 106,000–132,000 gross annual base salary

What you will do

• Build and maintain Python backend APIs and services using Flask, FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, and Pydantic.
• Design insurance pricing algorithms, models, and data visualizations.
• Translate business requirements into secure, high-quality production features with product management.
• Own the full development lifecycle, including architecture, technical spikes, proofs of concept, development, testing, and deployment.
• Improve application reliability and observability through logging, metrics, tracing, dashboards, and alerting.
• Participate in agile ceremonies, RFC and ADR documentation, peer reviews, and incident root-cause analysis.

Requirements

• 4+ years of professional software development experience.
• Hands-on experience building and deploying web applications and Python-based backend APIs.
• Experience with a major cloud platform such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Experience with containerization and orchestration using Docker and Kubernetes, plus CI/CD and DevOps practices.
• Strong knowledge of algorithms, data structures, performance optimization, and relational databases such as PostgreSQL.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts.

Nice to have

• Experience with FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, Pydantic, or Celery.
• Familiarity with NoSQL databases such as Redis.
• Exposure to LLMs and AI development tools such as Claude or Copilot.
• Data engineering experience or familiarity with NumPy, pandas, or Polars.
• Full-stack experience with TypeScript and React.
