Software Engineer II, Backend (Partner Merchant Interface)

Location: Remote in Canada. Remote-first work is available within the country of employment, with occasional in-person office work possible and an in-person onboarding experience for new hires.

Base pay: CAD 133,000–183,000 per year.

What you will do

• Break down larger backend projects into phases and deliver them in collaboration with the team.
• Design, develop, and launch APIs used by partners and merchants to integrate with Affirm.
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics on product decisions, technical constraints, risks, and trade-offs.
• Create and monitor operational metrics, support service availability, and participate in on-call efforts.
• Contribute to engineering growth through interviews, code reviews, debugging, and peer support.

Requirements

• 1.5+ years of software engineering experience or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems and APIs at scale.
• Proficiency in Python or Kotlin.
• Familiarity with distributed systems, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Ability to write clear, well-tested, extensible code and work across multiple software components.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience, plus strong verbal and written communication skills.
