Staff Mechanical Design Engineer (EPC)

Location: San Francisco, California, United States; travel to project sites and meetings as needed.

Salary: $187,500–$247,500 USD per year, with compensation commensurate with experience.

What you will do

• Serve as Mechanical Engineer of Record for hazardous occupancy, clean and dry space, chemical process, and industrial plant projects.
• Design and own mechanical and plumbing systems, including industrial water, HVAC, process heating and cooling, humidification, dehumidification, abatement, cooling towers, fans, pumps, and plumbing.
• Prepare and review specifications, calculations, permit documents, construction documents, and other mechanical engineering deliverables.
• Review conceptual designs, identify technical and financial risks, and ensure code compliance and design quality.
• Develop project workflows and standards and coordinate equipment arrangements, P&IDs, isometrics, tie-in lists, and material takeoffs across disciplines.
• Support field construction and commissioning as the technical point of contact for questions and real-time issue resolution.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent discipline.
• Licensed Professional Engineer with an NCEES record and the ability to apply for licensure in Nevada and South Carolina.
• 7+ years of HVAC and plumbing/fire protection design experience.
• Expert familiarity with ICC, NFPA, SMACNA, ACGIH ventilation practices, and ASHRAE standards.
• Experience designing or specifying HVAC, hydronic, process piping, exhaust, heat rejection, chiller, boiler, air handling, heat pump, dust collection, humidification, dehumidification, fan, and pump systems.
• Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and engineering tools such as Pipe-Flo, Caesar II, AspenTech, Applied Flow Technology, Carrier HAP, Trane Trace, Navisworks, and Bluebeam.

Nice to have

• Experience with thermal oxidizers, dry and wet scrubbers, heat exchangers, control valves and instrumentation, and heat recovery systems.
• Experience writing HVAC and chilled-water sequences of operation and executing equipment sourcing and RFP processes.
