Employment and Commercial Counsel

Location: Brooklyn, New York, United States; office-centric work from headquarters Monday through Thursday, with remote work available on Fridays according to company policy

Salary: $154,170–$192,712 base salary annually

What you will do

• Lead employment-law advice across recruitment, employee relations, performance management, leave and accommodations, labor matters, wage and hour issues, investigations, workers’ compensation, and immigration.
• Partner with the People team to draft, implement, and maintain HR policies, procedures, forms, and employment documentation.
• Draft and negotiate commercial agreements with designer partners, sponsors, advertisers, influencers, ambassadors, technology and SaaS partners, software licensors, and consultants.
• Help scale the Legal function through templates, policies, procedures, and legal technology processes.
• Advise business teams on strategic initiatives and one-off legal questions, translating legal issues into practical business solutions.
• Develop training materials, manage owned matters independently, and collaborate with legal and business leaders.

Requirements

• JD and New York bar membership or eligibility to register as an in-house attorney in New York.
• At least four years of legal practice, including at least two years of employment-law experience and two years as in-house counsel for an operating company.
• Experience drafting and negotiating commercial agreements.
• Practical, proactive, creative, and risk-based approach to legal counseling and negotiation.
• Strong judgment, communication, collaboration, autonomy, prioritization, and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to manage multiple critical projects under tight deadlines and provide clear guidance to non-lawyers.

Nice to have

• Experience with non-exempt workforces.
• Familiarity with marketing and advertising, traditional or digital media, technology, ecommerce, retail, manufacturing, or contract lifecycle management.
• Interest in developing as a legal generalist.
